A recognised qualification for a career in health and safety
The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of that knowledge. Ten days of tutor-led teaching across two units, NG1 and NG2, mapped to the National Occupational Standards owned by ENTO. Delegates leave with a recognised qualification and the ability to manage risk effectively. Many take the NEBOSH General Certificate as their first step into a health and safety career.

Tutor-led syllabus across NG1 and NG2
A NEBOSH-accredited tutor delivers the current syllabus across the management of health and safety (NG1) and risk assessment (NG2) units. Ten days of structured teaching, available as classroom face-to-face or online remote learning. The syllabus is mapped to the National Occupational Standards owned by ENTO.

Open-book exam and practical risk assessment
NG1 is assessed by open-book exam. NG2 is a practical risk assessment carried out at your own premises. Successful delegates receive the NEBOSH National General Certificate - a recognised route into a health and safety career.

What to expect from this course
What's covered
NG1 - Management of Health & Safety: why we manage workplace H&S, how management systems work, managing risk, monitoring and measuring. NG2 - Risk Assessment: physical and psychological health, musculoskeletal health, chemical and biological agents, general workplace issues, work equipment, fire, and electricity.

Who it's for
Managers, supervisors and employees with input into daily H&S decision making. Equips individuals with a broad understanding of health and safety issues and the ability to manage risk effectively. Many delegates take it as their first step toward a career in health and safety.

Prerequisites
IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent is recommended but not essential. Delegates without previous H&S knowledge are eligible to attend. A minimum standard of English is required to undertake the qualification.

How much does it cost?

Is this the same as the NEBOSH General National Certificate (GNC)?
Yes. NEBOSH is renaming the National General Certificate (NGC) to General National Certificate (GNC). Opus is delivering the 2026 syllabus. The qualification and content are the same.
