SECTOR-SPECIFIC COMPLIANCE

We understand your forecourts

A forecourt is often three businesses on one site: fuel dispensing, a convenience store and a car wash. Each carries its own compliance duty.

Fuel storage and hazardous zones

The tanker delivery area, the pumps and the underground tanks all sit inside DSEAR hazardous zones. A petroleum officer will expect zone drawings that match the site today.

Fire safety across the whole site

Shop, forecourt canopy, car wash and back office, with fuel stored below ground. The fire risk assessment has to cover every area, not just the shop.

Age-restricted sales and test purchases

Alcohol, tobacco, vapes and lottery all go through the same till. One failed alcohol test purchase can put your premises licence up for review.

Lone working after dark

Cash handling, a wet forecourt, a spill at 2am and nobody else on site. New starters need the induction before their first solo shift, not after it.

What non-compliance can cost a business

£5m

Health and safety fine

A major UK supermarket was fined £5 million for the health and safety offence alone, after 23,500 litres of petrol leaked from one of its petrol stations over 29 hours.

A known issue with the fuel delivery system had not been addressed and the alarm system was inadequate. Nearby residents had to leave their homes. Lancashire County Council and Environment Agency prosecution, June 2017.
