Paul Barker-Miles

Paul Barker-Miles is an experienced Health and Safety Consultant providing practical advice and risk management support to a diverse portfolio of clients across steel stockholding, aerospace, warehousing, road haulage, retail and engineering.

While his experience spans a variety of working environments, Paul has a particularly strong background in the builders' merchant sector. He has been closely involved with the Builders Merchants Federation, including serving as Chair of its Health and Safety Committee, contributing to initiatives aimed at improving health and safety standards across the sector.

He completed a Master's degree in Occupational Health, Safety and the Environment at the University of Birmingham in 2016.

His day-to-day work includes health and safety audits, fire risk assessments and occupational noise assessments, alongside ongoing support and guidance to clients. He has also developed and delivered bespoke training courses to help businesses strengthen competence and promote a positive safety culture.

As a client's designated Competent Person, Paul takes a practical and collaborative approach. His role is not simply to identify non-compliance but to help clients understand their responsibilities, prioritise risk and put proportionate, workable arrangements in place. He places importance on developing the client's own knowledge and confidence, so that health and safety becomes embedded in day-to-day management.
