Matthew Probitts

Matthew Probitts is a Health and Safety Consultant at Opus Safety, supporting clients across a wide range of industries and working environments including automotive dealerships, jewellery manufacturing, offices, warehouses, distilleries and construction sites.

Most of his working career was spent as a mechanical engineer. He worked for Cherwell Laboratories, repairing and maintaining laboratory air samplers and other specialist laboratory equipment, before joining Solid State Logic, which manufactures mixing desks for recording studios, live venues and broadcast studios. There he was asked to join the health and safety committee alongside his engineering duties, and his interest in health and safety began. In 2019 he became the company's Health and Safety Officer, responsible for developing and maintaining standards across the business.

Matthew holds the NEBOSH National General Certificate and the NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate, and is an IOSH trainer for Managing Safely, Working Safely and the refresher courses for each. He has also completed the HSE COSHH course and DSE Assessment and Manual Handling train-the-trainer qualifications. He is currently completing a Level 6 NVQ in occupational health and safety.

As a designated Competent Person, Matthew takes the time to understand how each client operates, the activities they undertake and the controls they already have in place, so his advice is appropriate to the organisation rather than generic. Where improvements are required he prioritises actions by level of risk and explains both what needs to be done and why, aiming to make health and safety understandable, achievable and part of everyday business operations.
