Safe working at height - equipment, inspection and use
This working at height training course covers the safe use of steps, ladders and harnesses, plus the maintenance and management of working at height equipment. Content includes the Working at Height Regulations, accident statistics, risk assessment and planning, inspection of access equipment, and safe use. The focus is practical - selecting the right equipment, inspecting before use, and using it safely. The course aligns with Opus's ladder inspection and harness inspection courses as part of a wider working at height programme.

Arrange in-house delivery tailored to your site
Opus delivers working at height training at your premises. The course and examples use your own steps, ladders, harnesses and access points, so delegates learn on the equipment they actually use.

02
Delivered by a working Opus consultant
An Opus H&S consultant delivers the course - working practitioners rather than full-time classroom instructors. Content covers the Working at Height Regulations, accident statistics, risk assessment and planning, inspection of access equipment, and safe use and management.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it include harness inspection?
The course covers inspection of access equipment, including harnesses. Teams with significant harness use often benefit from a dedicated session in addition to the wider working at height content.
How is the course assessed?
There is no written assessment. Delegates are continuously monitored throughout the day. Successful delegates receive an Opus certificate of attendance. Continuous monitoring lets the trainer close gaps in understanding during the session, rather than after a marked paper.
How is this different from the Ladder Inspection course?
Working at Height covers a broader range of access equipment - steps, ladders and harnesses - and the regulations that apply. The Ladder Inspection course is focused specifically on ladder selection, inspection and safe use. Many clients take both where different teams need different depth, with Working at Height providing the wider framework and Ladder Inspection providing the task-specific competence.
How long is the course?
One day, delivered at your premises with up to twelve delegates per session. Opus can split the day into two shorter sessions where shift patterns make a full day difficult.
How much does the course cost?
Pricing is bespoke based on your group size and location. Contact us for a tailored quote covering delivery, materials and certification in a single figure.
How often should working at height training be refreshed?
Refresher recommended every two to three years or after significant change of role, equipment, or site. Sooner after a significant incident, change of equipment, or change in the scope of work at height on site.
Who is working at height training for?
