Why Testing is Important

We can provide spirometry testing on-site conducted by our occupational health technicians who are trained professionals, using equipment and procedures that comply with the latest standards and guidelines.

Testing is convenient and simple to engage ensuring minimal disruption to your business. Spirometry testing takes up to 15 minutes per appointment which entails:

  • Height, Weight and BMI
  • A questionnaire documenting all employees medical information previous substance exposure and current
  • A recommendation for employees whose lung function is found to be affected with a GP referral and an option for a fit to work letter produced by our Occupational Health Nurse

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002, necessitate employers to control exposures to hazardous substances to protect employees’ health.

Employers must assess the exposure and the risk that this exposure would cause undue health effects. For example employees being exposed to chemicals that can cause harm by either inhaling hazardous chemicals, or contact via the skin or even swallowing.

Spirometry tests are lung function tests aiming to distinguish any premature impairment to the lungs instigated by exposure to respiratory sensitisers and other substances which has the potential to cause serious ill health. For example, silicosis may be caused by exposure to respirable crystalline silica in the stone cutting industry.

Substances that can cause Occupational Lung Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or Occupational Asthma normally trigger a Health Surveillance requirement. For Instance respiratory sensitisers are:
